Nashville and The Lady Vols

This past weekend a group of us headed to Nasville (Nashvegas) for a night of debauchery and to watch the Lady Vols play Vandy.

We arrived at the hotel around 5:00 and walked next door and bought beer. Some of the group were already there and we were waiting on two others. Might as well start drinking while we wait. The Marriott is nonsmoking but they have this great gazebo where we always hang out and smoke. We took our cooler (be more redneck) and walked down to the gazebo to wait on the others.

We knew the University of Memphis game was at 7:00. We found a bar in walking distance and made our way inside. A table left right in front of the TVs and we snagged it. Perfect! Buckets and shooters were ordered. Oh and some people ordered food.

Here Dyna and I are trying to do the letters U of M.

Group pic.
Then the game got serious. As you can see, we are losing! I had already admitted defeat when the Tigers came back to win. It was incredible!
After the game, we were going to Tribe. Only 1/2 the group made it though. The others pooped out.

It was packed when we got there but we snagged a table. We were all super buzzy by now!

Then dancing started.
We left around 2:00 and went back to the gazebo for a night cap.

The next morning came too soon and we were off to Noshville for breakfast. I ordered an omelet to whisk my hangover away. It was unbelievable.

We walked back to the hotel and caught the hotel's shuttle to the game. It was great. We would've never found a parking place.
As we were walking to the gymnasium, a sea of orange was everywhere. We sat down and the Lady Vols came out. Everyone went nuts.
Then they introduced the players. Candace Parker!
Tip off!

The game was close until right after halftime then the Lady Vols blew them away. We won by at least 15! Go Lady Vols!

Valentine's Day

Last night, Weenie and I accompanied Pat and James to dinner. We decided on McEwen's on Monroe. It was a Prix Fixe of $65 and included four courses.

We had been at James's downtown condo beforehand for cocktails so we decided to stick with vodka during dinner instead of switching over to wine.

The first course I chose was a Wild Boar Tamale. I was a little apprehensive about it but wanted to be a little adventuresome. It was wonderful! The sauce was very spicy. Next came the Heart of Romaine Salad with an avocado vinegrette. It also had roasted tomatoes and sweet onions. They had been marinating in the vinegrette. It was awesome!

My entree was filet with asparagus and gruyere potatoes. Delicious! Weenie had the snapper! Both were a little overcooked but still great.

Next was dessert. Oh my! I ordered the bourbon vanilla cheesecake on a banana graham cracker topped with strawberries! I could barely fit anything else in my mouth but this was too good to let go to waste.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening with my baby and my two best boys!

New York Day 5

The next morning we were hangy. We took a cab to Union Square. Mooey wanted to go to the Strand bookstore. We were starving so we found a diner. There's nothing like diner food for a hangover. After perusing the menu with over 100 items, I chose a bacon cheeseburger. Grease soaks up beer. After eating, we walked down to the bookstore. We immediately went to the travel section. I bought a used book on Belize for our trip next year.

After shopping, we got a cab back to the Upper West Side and did some shopping there. Then we headed home for a nap before the show at the Zipper Factory.

We had a snack and some drinks before the show.

Here are a few pictures of the show. It was hysterical! Singing, comedy and dancing.

Here's a short video of the performance.

After the show, we wanted Korean barbeque again. After we'd eaten earlier in the week, I had been thinking about it every day. We had the address and started walking. Of course, we went right instead of left and ended up walking all the way around the giant Post Office. We turned the corner and there was the Empire State Building.

We finally found Little Korea and after looking at several menus chose Shilla. It was about 10:30 but these places are open 24 hours.

Mooey chose some cold saki for us to drink. I'd always gotten hot saki before so this was a little different.

I ordered BBQed ribeye and Mooey ordered Bi Bim Bop. It was awesome!

Three Diva's Doin' It Again

Friday, the 1st, Weenie, Mooey and I went out to G'town (horrors) to see Susan Marshall, Jackie Johnson and Reba Russell sing at the Germantown High School. It was a fundraiser for the high school's theatre group.

We arrived early and after a bit of a ticket snafu, we were seated down front in some really good seats! Susan had arranged the tickets for us.

The show was magical and left us wanting more. All three women are amazing singers and when they sing together, it gives me the chills. Here is a video of Susan singing. Enjoy!

Afterwards, we went to Yia Yia's and waited on Susan and Jeff. They arrived shortly and Reba and her husband were with them. We drank and ate and laughed until our stomachs hurt. The Bloody Marys were some of the best I've ever had and they made me drink three of them! I ordered pizza and Weenie splurged on the pork tenderloin. The pork melted in my mouth! Outstanding!

We closed down the restaurant and got home around midnight.
