Christmas in NYC Day 3

Today was our food tour with Myra at NoshWalks. Here she is with one of the Australians on the tour. Our first stop was a Columbian bakery.
Myra purchased this Cholado for us to share. It was so fucking good. The bananas were probably the best ones I've ever had. Plus there was pineapple and mango and melon in condensed milk and passion fruit syrup. It was freezing outside but that didn't stop us from almost eating the entire frozen drink.
We noticed these mannequins in the window as we walked to the next food stop. My these ladies look a little top heavy.

Our next stop was the Uruguayan restaurant. Myra went up the counter and bought a container of ceviche. We ate it on the street as well. This was by far the best ceviche I've ever had and I think it was the best thing I ate on the tour.

Here is Mooey drinking a diet grapefruit drink. It was actually quite tasty. She bought it at an Argentinian butcher shop.

Next stop was an Equadorian bakery/deli.
She ordered this roll up. It was awesome. That hot sauce on the right was a little spicy but not too bad. We gobbled it up and went on the the next stop.

As we were walking we saw a street vendor cooking kabobs and arrapas (fried corn patties). They were so yummy!

Then we went to this little bakery and she got a variety of desserts.

(Scary nails!)
Below is a picure of the Australians. Notice Stan's gigantic coat. I could fit my entire body in his hood.

Fortune teller.

Finally, we arrived at an Equadorian restaurant and went in and got a table. Myra ordered a bunch of food off the menu and we all shared it. It was pretty good. They had some of the same hot sauce as the place where we got the roll up. So, I took a huge spoonful and put it all over my chicken. It was hot as fuck. OMG, I thought I might have to go to the hospital. About the same time, Mooey said "Uh, what's up with the hot sauce?". I had to try and get it off my chicken. It was literally the hottest shit I've ever eaten.

Toasted corn.
Pork tamale.

Please note the giant radio he's carrying around that has his music playing.

We left there stuffed. I couldn't eat one more thing. We crossed the street and saw a large crowd gathered. There was this guy and he had a doll attached to his feet and big speakers blaring music. I took a short video before we moved on.

I thought we were done but we stopped and bought one of these things. It was sort of like a funnel cake but they topped it with red stuff, then orange stuff, and then white stuff. I have no idea what the stuff was but it all tasted like sugar.

After this, we boarded the subway and headed back to Manhattan. We walked to the apartment for a nap. Around 8:00, we headed to Land for some Thai food. It was really good but too nice to snap any pics.

Sirens

So, last night it was the typical Siren show except Gwin Spencer sat in with Susan and blew our fucking heads off.

Oh and then they played this!

Christmas in NYC Day 2

Friday morning, we hailed a cab and went up to Harlem. There's an outdoor flea market there that we wanted to check out. We arrived around 11:00 and it was just opening up. We decided to go have lunch and come back.

On the way to eat, we popped into a shoe store where Mooey bought 2 pairs of shoes for $10!

Right down from the shoe store was the restaurant we wanted to check out. Amy Ruth's boasts genuine Southern home cooking. We've always poopooed this place because we are from the South and we can get home cooking everyday of the week.

I ordered honey dipped fried chicken with mac and cheese and cabbage. Look under the chicken, that's honey. Words cannot express the goodness that is on that plate. The mac and cheese is hands down the best I've ever had. Ever. All of it was divine.

And, as if that wasn't enough, we ordered banana pudding. She brought it out in this giant bowl. OMG! We could only eat half of it.
We wanted to go by the Apollo while we were in Harlem so we walked the 10 blocks.

It was a little dissappointing to say the least. On TV, it looks really big and cool. In person, it's really tiny and not much to look at.

We saw this graffiti on a truck while walking and I had to take a picture of it.

We shopped at the flea market some and then headed back to the apartment. We were going over to a friend's house at 5:00 for drinks.

We had Paul draw us a map of bars from his house back to the apartment. We wanted to go bar hopping. The first place was called Dive Bar. How appropriate.
We ordered 2 Patron Silver's chilled. From the size of these, the bartender's arm got tired pouring these.

The party was officially started.

Then we ordered Don Julio Tequila. They were much smaller thank God.

The end of our Yeunglings.

We were famished so we went next door to Famiglia pizza and got a couple of slices. They saved my life. We walked the 10 or blocks home and sobered up a little.

So much for bar hopping.

Christmas in NYC Day 1

Our first morning began with breakfast at our favorite diner, Pier 72. The same waitress has waited on us every time I've ever been there and she has the thickest Bronx accent. This year she wanted to know where her ribs were!

We caught a cab to 5th Avenue. Here's St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Self portrait in front of the grossly huge Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.

Ice rink.
Then we entered the building to go to the top.

$20 later we went up 67 floors in the elevator. I took less than a minute. They had a little light show as we went up.

Once we got off the elevator, they made us pose for a picture in hopes we would bu it. We did.The view was stunning.

We caught a cab to Little Seoul/Koreatown for lunch.

We settled on Korean BBQ. They sat us down and we ordered ribeye and pork. They opened up the table and put in wood and then put the meat on. It cooked right in front of us.

After eating, we went shoe shopping in Herald's Square. I bought a pair of shoes and then we caught a cab back to the apartment. It was time for a little nap before dinner with Mooey's parents.

We headed to Amsterdam for dinner at La Vela.

I ordered the linguine with shrimp with pesto. It was terrible. It was like Chef Boyardee or something. Everyone's food was bad. The wine and company however were great.
