Harry's Detour

Weenie and returned to Harry's Detour for another fabulous dinner. We ordered this appretizer. It's called Chaurice Diablo. The slaw was sweet instead of sour and really added to the dish. I ordered the pork chop. It was in a BBQ sauce that was spicy and had been pan seared. There was a nice crust on the outside and it was cooked medium. Absolute perfection.
Weenie ordered the Tilapia in a tomato butter sauce. The southwestern polenta was to die for and I kept trying to steal bites off her plate.

After stuffing ourselves, we went to Old Zinnie's for beers. Slick and Karn met us up there.

Then I got a call from Mooey saying she was having an impromptu kitchen party and to go get beer and come over. We got the check and got beer. When we arrived, there were about 10 people already dancing in the kitchen.

Mooey kicked us out at 1:30.

Alcenia's

Last week, we finally made it to Alcenia's Restaurant down in the pinch district.

Notice Ghetto Aid. We didn't try any but I wanted to. I stuck with the sweet tea which was plenty sweet!
I ordered fried chicken, green beans and cabbage. OMG, the chicken was so juicy and had a good scald on it. The cabbage and green beans were both spicy and had a caribbean feel to them. Everything was delicious. I cannot wait to go back!

Mary L*nder turns 38!

Saturday night was Mary's bday party at The Metro. We began our evening at The Buccaneer. The dive bar of all dive bars. Drinking and dancing were in order.

At around 9:00 we headed over to the party. It was in full swing when we arrived. He we are with the birthday girl.

Steaks!

Weenie and I are once again at the downtown petting zoo so we took the opportunity to go to The Butcher Shop. We hadn't eaten there in at least 10 years.


I hasn't changed one bit. We placed our steak orders and headed to the salad bar. It was actually pretty good for a cheesy salad bar.

Of course, the gigantic moose oversaw us as we made our salads.

The chef prepares your steak out in the open. You can watch or cook your own (who would want to).

I ordered the 16 oz. strip. You can't tell from this picture but the steak was easily 2 inches thick and it was cooked perfectly! Wow! It was velvety and had a nice char on the outside. One of the better steaks I've had in quite a while. Note to self, you cannot eat 16 ounces of meat.

As if that wasn't enough, the menu boasted authentic New York cheesecake. Dense and dry. It was not authentic New York cheesecake but was delicious all the same.

White Death 2008!

On Friday, the culmination of a weeks worth of weather reports came true. We got snow! 6 inches of snow! It rarely snows here and when it does, the city shuts down. Everyone runs to the supermarket to get milk and bread. Weenie and I left work early and battened down the hatches at home. That included pajamas and rotel.

Weenie snapped this Saturday morning while I was still sawing logs. She's an early riser.

Not knowing Weenie had taken some pics, I stuck my head out the door and took this one. 6 inches I tell ya!

Vaccines

Yesterday, Mooey, Weenie and I got our yellow fever vaccine for our upcoming trip here. I had it all built up in my mind but it wasn't bad at all. I felt a little fevery afterwards but I feel fine today.
